Are lost or broken dentures covered by contents insurance?
Dentures are normally part of your contents insurance, and most policies cover the cost of replacement if they are lost or broken beyond repair.
I've broken my dentures, what do I need to do first?
Give us a call straight away and talk to our fabulous admin ladies about coming in and getting an assessment. If the dentures are broken beyond repair then we can help you lodge a claim with your insurer. We regularly work with the main providers, and they even send patients our way for replacements.
What are Denture Relines?
A reline is the technical name for refitting an existing denture. Whether they're full or partial dentures, the entire fitting surface is replaced, but the way they look and function stay the same.
How do you know if you need a reline?
The denture would start to feel loose and bulky in the mouth, and perhaps food getting trapped under them or they're hurting. All dentures tend to need a reline after three years or so.
What are the steps involved in getting a reline?
At DentureTech our first step is a consultation to make sure a reline is the best treatment, and if it is, we'll book it in then. Relining in most cases is done in one day. Once it's done the denture will have a better fit, and be more hygienic.
What are Implant Retained Dentures, and how do they work?
Implants are like a fat screw or artificial root that are placed in the jaw bone, they serve as an anchor point. Once everything is in place, we can make a denture that securely clips on and off the implants.
What are the benefits of Implant Retained Dentures?
For our patients, it means no more pain from loose dentures. No more just making do with what their dentures will let them eat, they can enjoy the simple pleasure of a steak or corn on the cob. Their quality of life and confidence skyrockets.
What to do while in for a Denture consultation?
The big thing is to ask questions. Ask about ranges of dentures, and the pros and cons of each. Do they guarantee their work? Also cross infection control - what processes are in place to keep the patient safe and the clinician safe?
At DentureTech we're extremely proud of our customer service. In fact, last year we were a finalist in the Westpac Business awards for customer service, and this year we had the pleasure of winning this award.
DentureTech offers try-in appointments for the perfect fit
With the old method of making dentures, the customer had no control over the way their teeth would look.
Today, at DentureTech we have a unique system that allows the customer to actually try the teeth in their mouth before the denture is finalised.
The number one thing my patients tell me is "I don't want to look like a horse" because historically that's what you were given; but not any more! Today we have a wide range of dentures catering to all needs and budgets.
What are Partial dentures?
A Partial Denture is a denture where the customer has a few missing teeth, and a few natural teeth remaining. It's a denture that fills gaps in their smile.
Do you have a missing tooth or a couple of missing teeth. Are there options when it comes to partial dentures?
There are in fact a lot of options. Each option has its own unique benefits for the patient.
In the acrylic partial denture options, you have 2 types - standard acrylic or a flexible material sometimes known as Valplast. In the metal partial denture options, you have different types of metal - cobalt chrome or titanium.
How to determine the best Partial Denture?
A consultation would be best. We will have a look and a chat with the patient and sort out what is the best option for them. At DentureTech we offer a free consultation. So call us and make an appointment.
How does DentureTech prevent someone looking like a horse when it comes to dentures?
When we see someone for a denture consultation, the number one thing they tell me is "I don't want to look like a horse". Back in the old days, dentures were renowned for looking like horse teeth. The customer had no control over the way they looked, and as my 5 year old grandson says "you get what you get, and you don't get upset"
At DentureTech we have a unique system where there's an entire appointment dedicated to talking about the way the teeth will look. We can use old photographs of when the customer had their natural teeth and calculate the shape and size based on a photograph. We can set the teeth up in wax so the customer can try them in their mouth. They can see and feel the teeth before they're finalised. We can add staining, cracks and metal fillings to the teeth to make them look natural. I’ve had many patients tell me that they can always tell if someone is wearing a denture. I say, you can’t pick the good ones.
Do DentureTech do Immediate Dentures?
Immediate dentures make up a huge part of our business. When someone is going through this process, there's so much that needs to be thought about and decided on. We work in conjunction with the customer's dentist or specialist to ensure the best outcome for the patient. This enables us to monitor the healing of the patient and function of the denture. We even have our own aftercare programme that is unique to DentureTech.
Do DentureTech offer aftercare appointments?
The aftercare appointments are included in the cost of the dentures. Sometimes, we might need to do some maintenance work to the denture to help with the fit while the gums shrink and change shape, but we let the customer know well in advance what the additional costs will be.
Do you have Loose Dentures?
This is very typical for someone whose denture is no longer fitting as well as it should be. If food is getting under them half way through a meal, this can cause trauma to the gums. A reline or refit of the denture can fix the situation, or new dentures. Make an appointment to come and see us. We offer a free consultation, and can make a full assessment.
Relines, New Dentures and Implant Dentures. How would someone decide on what's best for them?
That's what the consultation is for, and why we don't charge for it. The best thing is to come in, sit down with us and have a proper chat. Implants aren't for everyone, just like sometimes a reline isn't going to fix the underlying issue.
Do you need Denture Repairs?
Dentures are renowned for breaking at the worst possible moment. I think the most memorable one is a bride, on the day of her wedding, breaking her denture. She came in, curlers in her hair and everything, waiting for it to be fixed.
First, call us. Our clinics are open Monday to Friday. But we do have an after-hours service on weekends and public holidays. We will normally have a clinician on-call when we are not open. If the repair is simple, it takes about 2 hours to complete. But first things first, we need to see the customer and the broken denture to assess what needs to be done, how long it will take, and how much it will cost. Also, dogs love to chew dentures! We've seen so many dentures in bits because a puppy got bored and wanted something to chew.
